
On Tuesday, November 24, 2015, the official opening of the Historical Library Foundation will take place. The President of the Hellenic Republic will particularly honor the Foundation with his presence and with a short speech. The event is not open to the public.
The Historical Library of the Foundation, consisting of approximately 280,000 items, is unique in Greece and among the most important historical Libraries worldwide. It consists of book collections of important personalities of literature and arts. Notable amongst these are the Biblioteca Graeca with 7,500 titles, containing almost all Ancient Greek writings in the first printed editions and incunabula from the 15th to the 19th century. Other distinguished book collections are the large libraries of Professor K. Th Dimaras, of Historian Aikaterini Koumarianou, Philosopher John Theodorakopoulos, Byzantinologist Helen Glykatzi-Ahrweiler, Professor Emmanuel Kriaras, Member of the Academy of Athens Constantine Svolopoulos, Professor Philip Elias, Teacher and Scholar George Dolianitis and many others. Also unique is the maritime law library of Baron Leo Delwaide.
