On March 17, the Social Work Development Foundation, IAKE, gave to the Aikaterini Laskaridis Foundation an important thematic library, consisting of more than 2,500 books. The main themes include Social Work, Sociology, Psychology, Psychiatry and Education. Equally important is the collection of journals, including Social Work issues, Elections, Women equality issues, publications of the National Centre for Social Research (NCSR) etc.
IAKE was founded in 1979 by the Hellenic YWCA and until 1984 its main contribution was related to the operation of the Higher School of Social Work, that with Law no. 1404/1983 was incorporated by the Technical University of Athens.
IAKE is a private, non-profit organization supervised by the Ministry of Health. Its main statutory purpose is the development and promotion of social work. Major financial resources come from real estate offered by the daughters of Stephanos and Penelope Delta, Sophia Mavrogordatos, Virginia Zanna and Alexandra Papadopoulou.
From 1984 until today, IAKE serves its social function, contributing to the development of social work through:
Organizing and conducting seminars and conferences in Greece and Cyprus.
Training programs for Social Workers and general social service executives.
Conduct of studies of scholars relating to social work.
Research on social problems.
Cooperation with agencies, institutions, organizations and private entities in Greece and abroad.
