Which islands did Western European travelers visit and why? What were they observing and recording? What survives to this day? How does island culture emerge?

After the success of the online tours in Asia Minor, the Aikaterini Laskaridis Foundation organizes a new series of online lectures about the Aegean Sea. Based on the website Travelogues, this action aims to take the attendees on a journey through the island tradition of the Aegean from the 16th century to the present day.

Most of us are visiting the islands of the Aegean Sea during summer, without having the opportunity to learn about the history and culture “hidden” in their past and traditions. We are going to uncover step by step these unique elements in eight online meetings.

Through rare and rich iconographic material, the historian and charismatic tour guide Ioli Vingopoulou will accompany us on this journey to discover the antiquities, mythology, traditions and many other “secrets” of the Aegean islands.
