The library of Triantafyllos Sklavenitis, the largest donation ever made to the Aikaterini Laskaridis Foundation, comprises over 47,000 items so far. It consists of extensive and comprehensive thematic sections on Greek history (ancient times, Byzantium, Venetian rule, Ottoman rule, the Greek War of Independence, and the modern Greek state, local history), world history, modern Greek philology, literary studies, and specialized history (education, youth, folklore, arts, law, printing, etc.). It also includes extensive bibliographies related to archival science and librarianship, the history of the book, manuscripts and paleography, national, local, and specialized bibliographies, indeces of periodicals, newspapers, and dictionaries.

Biography

Triantafyllos Sklavenitis (1948) is a philologist, historian, researcher, and Emeritus Research Director at the National Hellenic Research Foundation, in the Department of Modern Greek Studies. Born in Lefkada, he studied History and Philology of Modern Greek at the School of Philosophy at the University of Athens (1966-1977), and continued his studies and research at the Hellenic Institute of Byzantine and Post-Byzantine Studies in Venice (1976-1977). He specializes in the history of ideas, mentalities and behaviors, education, books, and historiography. Since 1971, he has been affiliated with the National Hellenic Research Foundation, initially as a volunteer, then on project contracts and employment contracts, becoming a principal researcher in 1990 and Research Director in 1995. He was responsible for the IIE/NHRF project on the History of Historiography (15th-20th centuries) and has overseen various research projects, scientific missions, and collaborations. He works regularly with several organizations, including the Society for the Study of Modern Greek Studies, the Society for Lefkadian Studies, and the Committee of the Historical Archive of Greek Youth of the General Secretariat for Youth. He is a member of six scientific societies, has served as co-editor of collective books and catalogs, co-organizer of 43 conferences, and co-editor of the proceedings of 35 conferences. He has also been a member of editorial boards for four scientific journals. Sklavenitis has published books, as well as numerous studies and articles on his areas of specialization.
