The library of Professor Theodosis Pylarinos

The collection was donated to the Foundation in 2023 by the owner himself. It consists of approximately 36,000 items. Thematically it focuses on the fields of history, literature, language and philology, folklore, education and theology. It includes many first editions of Greek literary works, a significant number of works on local history, several series of periodicals as well as many collectible books.

Biography

Theodosis Pylarinos (1946) is a philologist, academic and writer. He was born in Athens, while his family’s origins are from the Ionian Islands. He studied at the School of Philosophy of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. He worked in the Library of the Monastery of Saint John the Theologian in Patmos, as a teacher in private schools and since 1998 as a professor in various university departments. He is an emeritus professor of Modern Greek Literature at the Ionian University. His research focuses mainly on the Heptanese school of literature, Cypriot literature, the periodicals of the 19th and 20th centuries and the Generation of 1970 in Greek poetry. He has published articles, studies and reviews in many literary and scholarly journals and yearbooks, as well as collective volumes. He is a member of various scholarly societies and associations.
