The library was transferred to the Foundation in 2018 and includes approximately 2,800 volumes. The scientific fields represented are Byzantine archaeology, art, and history, the history of European art in particular, and to a lesser extent, Greek and Roman archaeology. A significant portion of the books are in German, but there are also several titles in English, French, Greek, and Turkish.

Biography

Urs Peschlow (1943-2018) was a German professor of archaeology. He studied Christian and Classical Archaeology, as well as Art History, at the universities of Marburg and Thessaloniki. In 1970, he earned his Ph.D. from the University of Mainz. He collaborated with the German Archaeological Institute (of which he was also a member) at the Rome and Istanbul branches. From 1981 to 1985, he worked at the University of Göttingen, and from 1985 until his retirement in 2008, he was a professor of Christian Archaeology and Art History (with a specialization in Byzantine art) at the University of Mainz.
