Biography

Stratis E. Stratigis (1933-2023) was a lawyer and politician. He studied law and philosophy at the University of Basel, where he earned his doctorate in 1956, and completed postgraduate studies at the London School of Economics. He practiced law in Athens and Piraeus, specializing in maritime, insurance, banking, and financial law, and served as legal advisor to the Maritime Operations Division of the National Bank of Greece. He worked as an Athens lawyer from 1960 in his father’s office until 1980. He retired from the profession in 2012 as managing partner of the law firm E. Stratigis & Associates. He was involved in politics from 1974 to 1985 as a member of the Executive Committee and later the governing committee of the New Democracy party, serving in various government positions. He served as a member of parliament for the New Democracy party initially and later for the “Democratic Renewal” (DI.A.NA.) under Konstantinos Stefanopoulos. He permanently withdrew from active politics in July 1994 with the dissolution of his party. From January 1998 until his resignation in July 1999, he was the first Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Organizing Committee for the Athens 2004 Olympic Games.
