The library of Professor Gina Politi

Professor Politi generously bequathed her library to the Foundation. It is estimated to contain approximately 2,000 items on the subjects of literature, philology, and literary theory.

Biography

Gina Politi (1930-2023) was a philologist, literary theorist, university professor, and author. She was born in Athens. She studied English literature at Columbia University in New York and completed her doctoral dissertation at the University of Cambridge, where she taught for a considerable period of time. She then became a professor of English literature at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. Her books and studies on English, Greek, and comparative literature have been published in Greece and abroad. In addition to scholarly pursuits, she published articles on social and political issues. She also translated literary works by authors such as Joseph Conrad, Herbert Read, E. A. Poe, and others. During her long career, she was honored with the ‘Award for Excellence in University Teaching and Research’ by the Foundation for Research and Technology – Hellas (FORTH), the ‘Dido Sotiriou Award’ from the Society of Authors, and many other awards and distinctions.
