How did European travelers record their experiences from their trips to the East? What do their travel diaries reveal about the major port cities of Greece?
The Aikaterini Laskaridis Foundation invites the public to a unique series of online tours via the pod.gr platform. With historian Ioli Viggopoulou as our guide, we are transported back in time and take a tour of landmark stories, as preserved in the pages of travel literature.
Texts, descriptions, and testimonies bring to life the image of four iconic cities and ports: Athens, Thessaloniki, Syros, and Chios. Cities, ports, and landscapes are revealed through the eyes of foreign visitors; testimonies that became images and images that became history.
EPISODES
Syros: The rise of a new city
Chios: The island of memory and trade
Athens: Through the eyes of the traveler
Thessaloniki: A gateway between East and West
Pre-register by Wednesday, December 24 and be the first to hear each new episode! Friends of the Foundation gain exclusive access before it becomes available to the general public.
