On Friday, June 13, 2025, an event was held on the promotion of the action for the protection of underwater cultural heritage from the effects of climate change, which is implemented by the National Hellenic Research Foundation (Institute of Historical Research). The action is supported by the Aikaterini Laskaridis Foundation, in the framework of the Initiative ’21 on climate change.
At the event, the research on the island of Kassos was presented, with Dr. Charikleia Papageorgiadou, who seeks to shed light on the influence of climate change on underwater cultural heritage but also to investigate methods of protection of underwater archaeological findings from temperature increase, change in pH and salinity of water and the worsening of extreme weather phenomena.
