On December 4, 2025, at 6:30 p.m., at the Historical Library, we invite you to the presentation of our new edition, True History (“Anonymus of 1789”), a radical work of the Modern Greek Enlightenment, preserved in a single copy in the C. Th. Dimaras Collection at the Foundation’s Historical Library. This is the first literary edition of the work, by dr. Theodora Grigoriadou.
In her thorough introduction, the author sheds light on the genre identity of the work as a Menippean satire, formulates new suggestions regarding the place and time of its publication, and supports the argument that the author is the Epirote scholar Athanasios Psalidas. The volume includes a transcription of the work, a detailed commentary, an informative glossary and photographic reproduction of the original book.
It is a significant contribution to the study of late 18th-century literary production and to the promotion of the C. Th. Dimaras Collection—a core collection for research on the Modern Greek Enlightenment and a living testimony to the role of the Historical Library in preserving and promoting the Greek intellectual heritage.
Speakers:
Nikos Mavrelos, Professor of Modern Greek Literature, Democritus University of Thrace
Gerasimos Leonidas, Professor of Typography, University of Reading
and the author, Theodora Grigoriadou, Researcher at the Complutense University of Madrid.
Moderated by Angeliki Papadopoulou, philologist and editor of the publication, Aikaterini Laskaridis Foundation.
Please note: The event will be held in Greek.
