Building on the workshop series for teenagers and educators led by Soloύp at the Lending Library between 2024 and 2026, as well as the publication of the book by Soloύp and Evangelia Moula “Comics and Graphic Novels through the Lens of Aivali: Literature, History and Visual Communication: Comics in Education” (Dioptra Publications), the Lending Library of the Aikaterini Laskaridis Foundation and the MA Program “Children’s Book and Educational Material” of the Department of Preschool Education and Educational Design (TEPAES) at the University of the Aegean are organizing a conference titled “Comics and Visual Storytelling as an Educational Tool.” The conference will be held in Greek on Saturday, February 28, 2026, from 9:00 to 17:00, at the Historical Library of the Aikaterini Laskaridis Foundation.
As a hybrid art form that brings together word and image, comics have firmly established their place among the arts and in the reading preferences of audiences of all ages. Today, they function as a powerful bridge of communication with young people and as a valuable tool for dialogue, critical thinking, and creative expression in educational settings.
The conference aims to highlight the potential of comics and visual storytelling as educational, artistic, and cultural tools; to explore their history and evolution; to present contemporary trends; and to encourage creativity. It also seeks to bring together creators, readers, educators, and publishing professionals, support emerging artists, and foster dialogue on the role of image and text in contemporary society.
University scholars, teachers, writers, artists, and publishers will share their experiences, perspectives, and approaches in an open discussion on the place of comics and visual storytelling in education.
Registration is required.
The conference is supported by Bodossaki Lectures on Demand -BLOD, the online lecture library (blod.gr) of the Bodossaki Foundation.
