Greece in Armenian

Armenian Publications of Greek Texts from Antiquity to the Modern Era

From the Church Fathers and the Alexander Romance to Homer, Sophocles, Kazantzakis and Elytis, Greek literature has spoken Armenian for fifteen centuries. The exhibition presents translations from Ancient and Modern Greek into Classical Armenian (Grabar), Western and Eastern Armenian. It begins with the earliest translations of the 5th to 8th centuries and moves on to the 19th-century work of the Mkhitarist Fathers of Venice. It ends with the contemporary translators now bringing everyone from Herodotus to Maro Vamvounaki to Armenian readers.

Two ancient cultures meet on the page, in an exhibition organized by the Embassy of the Republic of Armenia in Greece and the Institute of Ancient Manuscripts – Matenadaran. It will be hosted at the at the Historical Library of the Aikaterini Laskaridis Foundation from 9 October to 12 December 2026.
