The work of one of the most important contemporary Greek artists of the 20th century, the painter of the diaspora Dimitris Perdikides.
In a specially designed space of the Foundation, a permanent exhibition of the painter’s works is presented for the first time, which is made on the occasion of the kind donation and loan of his works by Leonidas and Denise Perdikides. It includes 60 works, including oil paintings, drawings and mixed media works, which offer the public the opportunity to get to know the art of one of the most important contemporary Greek artists of the 20th century.
The Greek painter Dimitris Perdikides (1922–1989) was born in Neo Faliro in 1922 but lived in Madrid from 1953 to 1985. He was a member of the Spanish artistic avant-garde, but without ever losing touch with artistic activity in Greece.
This exhibition, which chronologically covers all of Perdikides’ artistic activity with prominent examples from each period of his painting, emphasizes the importance of Dimitris Perdikides for contemporary art, especially in Greece and Spain, due to his consistency as a creator and the quality, authenticity and originality of his work.
Nine thematic sections facilitate the tour of the exhibition and inform about the course and main features of Perdikides’ work: from the portraits of his relatives when he lived in Neo Faliro to some of the works with which he participated in the Venice Biennale in 1964 and 1966 and the silk-screen prints he made for a collector’s edition of Yannis Ritsos’ Romiosini.
Organized tours can be arranged upon request.
