On Wednesday December 17, 2025 the Historical library welcomed students from the department of philology of the University of Athens. The visit was organized as part of the course taught by Professor Stephanos Kaklamanis.
The students were given a tour of the Library and the the temporary exhibition “30 Years, 30 Books: Tiny, Mighty, Precious, Rare.” The tour, as well as the discussion around it, focused especially on the history of the book in Western Europe, the first Greek editions and religious editions during the Reformation. Afterwards, Professor Kaklamanis presented a lecture on the transition from oral to written literature and from the manuscript to the printed book, with special emphasis on early Modern Greek Literature.
The lecture was supported with a presentation of relevant books from the collections of the Historical Library. Among them, a 14th century manuscript and an incunable, modern Greek editions from the 18th and 19th century, as well as items from the archive of C. Th. Dimaras, illustrating the additions and corrections on the subsequent editions of his famous “History of the Modern Greek Literature”.
