Biography

Pericles Argyropoulos (1871-1953) was a distinguished rear admiral, politician and diplomat. Notably, during the First Balkan War, he commanded the torpedo boat 14, instrumental in torpedoing the Turkish gunboat “Trebizond” in the bay of Ayvali. Engaging in politics from 1909 onwards, Argyropoulos held significant roles such as Minister of Transport in the Zaimis government of 1917 and again in 1926 under the Athanasios Eutaxias government. Subsequently, during the tenure of I. Metaxas’s government, he assumed the post of ambassador to Madrid. Among his written works are “The Naval Program of Greece” (1905) and “Greeks and the Sea” (1909). Additionally, his posthumously published “Memories,” drawn from his personal diary, offer valuable insights into his life and experiences.
